چکیده

In many situations, task allocation is highly dependent on the spatial locality of the agents and the tasks. In this paper we explore task allocation in complex spatial environments, where the cost of completing a task can vary over time. This work focuses on a subset of cost functions for tasks that grow over time and presents the real-time Latest Finishing First (RTLFF) algorithm, which strikes a balance between the optimal zero travel time solution and minimizing the amount of time agents spend transferring to tasks in different locations. We also present how spatial knowledge can be used to infer missing knowledge in partially observable spaces.

Exploiting Spatial Locality and Heterogeneity of Agents for Search and Rescue Teamwork

We propose coordination mechanisms for multiple heterogeneous physical agents that operate in city-scale disaster scenarios, where they need to find and rescue people and extinguish fires. Large scale disasters are characterized by limited and unreliable communications, dangerous events that may disable agents, uncertainty about the location, duration and type of tasks, and stringent temporal c...

Forming Long Term Teams to Exploit Synergies among Heterogeneous Agents

In this work, we describe how agents can take advantage of synergies among each other and increase their efficiency at accomplishing tasks by working in teams. We present different team structures for heterogeneous agents, which range from static teams that are formed upfront and never change, to dynamic teams where agents can change teams as need arises, to teams that allow only some types of ...

Performance/Energy Efficiency of Variable Line-Size Caches for Intelligent Memory Systems

Integrating main memory (DRAM) and processors into a single chip, or merged DRAM/logic LSI, makes it possible to exploit high on-chip memory bandwidth by widening on-chip bus and on-chip DRAM array. In addition, from energy consumption point of view, the integration brings a significant improvement by decreasing the number of off-chip accesses. For merged DRAM/logic LSIs having on-chip cache me...

Allocating Tasks in Extreme Teams

Extreme teams are on the horizon: large-scale agent teams operating in dynamic environments, problematic for current task allocation algorithms due to the lack of locality in agent interactions. We propose a novel distributed task allocation algorithm for extreme teams, called LA-DCOP, that incorporates three key ideas. First, LA-DCOP’s task allocation is based on a dynamically computed minimum...

Exploration of the Spatial Locality on Emerging Applications and the Consequences for Cache Performance

The performance gap between processors and memory is increasing, making the cache hit-rate paramount for performance. Studies show room for improvement, especially in data caches. The cache effectiveness is dictated by software locality, hence the software behavior directs the cache performance. This paper presents a framework for studying spatial locality. It focus on the characteristics of th...
